Carme Pigem

Carme Pigem Barceló (Olot, April 8, 1962) is a Spanish Architect and one of the few women in the world recipient of the Pritzker Prize. She was awarded in 2017 along with Ramón Vilalta and Rafael Aranda, her fellows at the firm RCR Arquitectes. Carmen Pigem studied at the School of Fine Arts in her hometown, before moving to El Vallès School of Architecture, near Barcelona, where she graduated in 1987. Immediately after she and her two colleagues came back to Olot and founded the firm RCR Arquitectes. Their architecture has a remarkable approach to the place, the materiality and the user experience.
Carmen Pigem has worked as a studio professor for many years at El Vallès School of Architecture and at the Barcelona School of Architecture. Since 2005 she is a visiting professor in the Department of Architecture at the Zurich Institute of Technology (ETHZ).
